Switch

Hello,

For people still viewing this blog, I doubt I will be updating it very often anymore.
I've created a new blog here: http://spectralyte.tumblr.com/
Fact is that I'm not very good at keeping up two or more places at the same time, so I'll keep this blog here as an "archive" of the things I uploaded before the new blog.
Anyway, hope to see you there!

Sacrifice

...Someone is in a bad mood today.

Two really old characters.
The tyrannosaurus on the left is +/- 8 years old, the dragon whimp on the right is about 6 years old.
I haven't drawn either in a very long time... I'm starting to feel old.

Astronaut revisited

Anyone remember the watercolour painting I did here?
Well, today I decided to glitch it to hell, for fun! And beneath there are a few other things I've done, but the first one is by far the best.

This one was a different file type, and for some reason it sliced up the image. I like PNG best for far in terms of glitching, but maybe I should experiment with it more, I'm still a rookie in this area.

Glitchy goodness

I dicked around in Notepad++ with a Hex plugin. This image is the previous one I posted, but glitched. I've had a recent interest in glitch art, mainly for its unpredictable nature, something I've always really enjoyed in art. I came to love the surprises I got while printmaking last year, and ever since, I've been trying to incorporate "accidentalness" into my pictures, embracing mistakes that actually turn out to look pretty awesome. Getting accidental things digital is hard, since digital art is so incredibly controlled. But glitch art is a way to circumvent this and create something truly unpredictable and surprising. The downside of glitch art is that it's very easy to make, and it would be very easy for anyone to glitch a picture and label it "art". I still like to have some control, some -intention- with my work, but glitch art is a great inspiration to me, and I'm trying to figure out ways how to incorporate it into my work.
For example, the colours produced accidentally in the first picture below inspired me to draw the second picture, which uses colours I sampled from the former. In that way, I can use accidental glitches to me advantage, in creating works I would never have gotten to on my own (I would not have chosen these colours by myself). I still think there are more ways to use and abuse glitch art to my liking, but that will require some more exploring.

Be sure to full view the picture below, the amount of detail is astonishing! :)

This is the picture I created, inspired by glitch art.

Titan

A more recent character of mine, Titan. He's supposed to be some sort of Bovine, but probably not an Ibex (because those usually have huge horns, not a very useful characteristic on an anthro character). He plays drums in the same band that Flint is in. The bag he's carrying in this picture contains one of his many cymbals, he's a bit of a hoarder and collects as many drums as he can get his hands on, even though he doesn't play all of them. His personality is calm, he's a bit of an opposite to Flint (who is aggressive and impulsive). Titan also plays the role of mediator whenever Flint gets into a fight with someone else, he's one of the few people able to get the badger to calm down.
Click to enlarge and see it in all its detailed glory (which I worked my ass off for).
