Couple of drawings I did last week.
This is Flint, remember him? I just fancied drawing a portrait of him looking all serious.
I had drawn quite a few doodles of my character Dimitri in my dummy, so I decided to combine them and make them into a sort-of character sheet for him.
And this one was kinda inevitable. With all the Stag beetles I've been drawing lately (Here, here and here) it was naturally for me to try and draw an anthropomorphized one! Of course I took some artistic liberty and this guy doesn't look 100% like a stag beetle, but that's why they are called Anthro's, the freedom to turn some parts more human than animal. I also wanted to go for a more interesting colour pattern that just black and dark red, as these creatures usually are, so I used different shades of grey. His name, Cervj, is a word-play on the word "Cervus" (which means deer) and points in the direction of his species' name and scientific name, Stag beetles.

Machinery
Here are a few works I have done for college last week. I was thinking what to do with my concept and I had quite a lot of ideas. The fourth and last period of this year is all about advertisement and promotion. For this, we has to look for a cultural institution within our own city, that we could use for an "imaginary" cultural market (an annual event where people can gather information about all the cultural events in the city). I choose the city's only -real- poppodium, namely the W2 (William the second, named after a king of the Netherlands) poppodium. We have to try and represent our companies of choice through a market stand, a website and a third item of choice (merch, for example). I have been trying to gather ideas about this, starting off with the obvious (which is the bottom picture). But I soon realized that thought it looked nice, it was a little bit too obvious.
I've always associated city life with being part of a well-oiled machine, especially poppodiums which have the crowd and the atmosphere and the music. So I started drawing machinery parts (large, in charcoal) and give them sharp fluorescent colours digitally. I am quite happy with these so far, and I'm sure they'll form a great inspiration for my further work this period.
I should really try and post more on this blog haha.
Oh well, click to enlarge, and let me know what you think!
